Splash into Summer: 6 Homes with Infinity Pools

Splash into Summer: 6 Homes with Infinity Pools

It’s been a cool, wet spring hereabouts, but we’re poised on the edge of summer’s heat.

What better way to welcome summer’s lazy, hazy heat than in the cool, clear waters and the beautiful illusion of an infinity pool?

The water flows over a vanishing edge, there to be silently filtered, cleansed, and returned in an endless cycle. Ah, the Zen tranquility of it! But it’s that edge, that negative-edge horizon line which makes artists of us all, placing us at the center of a new perspective on the world.

Why not contemplate that view—whether it be a seascape or landscape—from the glassy surface of water melding into cloudless blue? Or, perhaps, just clamber into one of those floating chairs with a tall, chilled beverage and leave the world behind.

Consider a sunset-view infinity pool on the island of Mykonos or a zero-edge pool overlooking Careel Bay in Sydney’s northern beaches. And if one infinity pool isn’t enough, how about two, each framing a picture-perfect vista of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast?

The homes featured in this Luxury Defined edition illustrate why an infinity pool is more than a trick of perspective: it’s the ultimate place to cool off and while away a lazy summer afternoon. Contemplate the infinite!

1. Magna Pacific in Santa Teresa, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Infinity pool
This exclusive jungle compound has not one but two infinity pools with a front-row view of the palm-fringed sands of Playa Hermosa—a surfer’s paradise on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.

Magna Pacific is a serene tropical escape perched high in the jungle above Playa Hermosa beach on Costa Rica’s remote Nicoya Peninsula.

Completed in 2023, the one-acre ridgeline compound is the vision of its owner, in collaboration with local architecture studio Instinto and Mexico-based interior design firm Casa Moa.

At the heart of the property are two sustainably built, turnkey villas: The 6,845-square-foot, six-bedroom Villa Nalani is shaded by its distinctive canopy-style roof at the highest point of the property to take in the sea’s soft surf breaks, directly below. Lava stone adjoins the 25-meter (82-foot) lap pool as it spills into the west-facing infinity edge pool, where the sky meets the sea.

The adjacent Villa Elu is built to the same high standards, providing 7,491 square feet of “barefoot-luxury” living space. Its four en suite bedrooms all have separate entrances and a panoramic view of Playa Hermosa. Secluded within its beautiful tree-lined grounds is an infinity pool facing the wild blue expanse of the Pacific Ocean.

A walking trail leads down to the beach. The bohemian-chic beach town of Santa Teresa—Costa Rica’s top surf destination for the rich and famous—is about 2.5 miles away.
